        History

Bruce Price (1845-1903) was born in Cumberland, MD, and received his architectural training at the College of New Jersey. He opened his first practice in Baltimore and later moved to New York. He designed houses in the Shingle style, which was so influential in American domestic architecture, notably in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959). Price's later work is more varied and not restricted to domestic designs. He received many important commissions for large-scale commercial structures, among them a twenty-storey building for the American Surety Company in New York (1894-1896).
