History

Christopher Daniel Paulus was born on April 11, 1848, in Ludwigsburg, Württemberg, Germany.

He was a portrait sculptor, painter, illustrator, and teacher. He moved his family to the United States in 1893, and to Los Angeles in 1916. Previously, he had lived, studied, and worked in Egypt, Persia, Italy, and Palestine. He had a studio just inside the Jaffa gates of Jerusalem for two decades. During his life in Europe, Paulus had made portrait busts of many notable people, members of royal families, and outstanding statesmen.

In 1878, he married Barbara Schmidt (1858–1932). He died on November 6, 1936, in Los Angeles, California
