Exterior view photograph. Chatelaine House (lot C-449) exterior. The Chatelaine House was an exhition themed "Man in the Home". It was the winnning submission in a Canada wide competition sponsored by the Canadian Lumber association. It's ground floor was for recreational and work areas while the second floor was composed of living areas and a kitchen. Bedrooms and bathrooms could be found on the third floor. Visitors had the opportunity to actually win the house and its contents. A separate one storey exhibition pavilion featured an adjoining swimming pool. Rectangular volumes. Representing eight of Canada's major Christion denominations ( Roman Catholic, United, Anglican, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, Greek-Orthodox and Ukrainian Gree-Orthodox), the Christian Pavilion was conceived as a place for these faiths to join together and promote the common message of Christianity. Fronted by an enclosed entrance garden, the Christian Pavilion craftily featured three different levels within its one storey frame, each level showcased a different exhibition theme. Photographs, films and models spread the message that Christ is an eternal source of hope, joy and love. Butterfly roof over triangular volume. Laminated B.C. fir, laminated pine roof deck. Photograph of the Congo Pavilion exterior (lot 462). The Congo pavilion featured a lively atmosphere of music and art. Frescos of dancers, warriors, forests, and animals adorned the walls. Samples of gold, silver and copper were also on display as Congo then produced 1.5th of the world's copper supply. Craftsmen and artists painted portraits and skillfully manipulated copper into masks.
