History

Ernest Nister was a German printer and publisher with head offices in England, Germany and the United States. Initially based in Nuremberg in the 1870s, Nister expanded to London in 1888 and New York City in 1889 selling printed items in both English and German. Popular for their greeting cards, especially valentines, Nister became one of the first manufacturers of mechanical or ‘moving’ books for children. Their greeting cards were known to be of high quality and of complex designs that featured several folded components. The company closed during the First World War.
