Aeneas McMaster was born in Scotland, and emigrated to Canada in 1874. In 1875, he became the Director of the Glasgow Canadian Land and Trust Company, which operated in Compton County, Quebec, among other places. In 1876, he was Mayor of the Municipality of Hampden (which at the time included Hampden Township and the the town of Scotstown). By 1884, he was School Commissioner in Scotstown.
