History

Wilbert G. McBride, a professor of mining engineering, was born in Inglewood, Ontario, and graduated from McGill in 1902 with a BSc. in Applied Science. He worked as a mining engineer at several locations in Arizona and Mexico, between 1903 and 1927, and then was appointed Macdonald Professor of Mining Engineering at McGill. He held that post until his death. Other university positions he occupied included Chairman of the Department of Mining Engineering, 1933-1943, member of the McGill Senate, 1935-1941, and chairman of the editorial Board of the McGill News, 1942-1943. From 1941 to 1942, McBride was President of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
