John McAuley was born in 1947 in Quebec, Canada.

He is a Canadian poet, editor, and educator. He received two degrees from Sir George Williams University (now Concordia). He ran the Véhicule Press poetry series with Bob Galvin and Stephen Morrissey from 1976 to 1977 and was one of the original Véhicule Poets. He edited Maker magazine and oversaw the publication of The Vehicule Poets anthology. He is the author of several books of poetry, e.g., "Nothing Ever Happens in Pointe-Claire" (1973), "Hazardous Renaissance: Concrete Poetry" (1978), "Mattress Testing" (1978), "What Henry Hudson Found" (1979), and "All I Can Say for Sure" (2013). McAuley teaches in the English department at Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec.
