History

Michael Arthur Phelans, K.C. was born on April 1, 1875, in Montreal, Quebec.

He was educated at the University of Bishop's College in Lennoxville and McGill University. He was called to the Bar of Quebec in 1905 and was created a King's Counsel in 1915. He was a vice-president of the Montreal City and District Savings Bank and a Senior Member of Phelan, Fleet, Robertson and Abbott Law Firm. He was also a member of the Catholic School Board of Westmount from 1916 until 1943 and was its president from 1920 until 1943. He became president of the St. Patrick's Society of Montreal in 1918 and was a president and legal adviser of the Catholic Sailors Club of Montreal. He was also a director of the North American Accident Insurance Company.

In 1910, he married Blanche Catherine Gillmor. He died on October 1, 1945, in Montreal, Quebec.
