Levenson, Christopher, 1934-

Christopher Levenson was born on February 13, 1934, in London, England.
He is a Canadian poet and editor. He lived in the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States before moving to Ottawa in 1968. He became a Canadian citizen in 1973. He graduated from Cambridge University (B.A., 1957), the University of Bristol (Dip. Ed., 1962), and the University of Iowa (M.A., 1970). Levenson was co-founder and editor of Arc magazine, Delta magazine and taught English, Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at Carleton University in Ottawa. He also co-founded the Harbinger Poets imprint of Carleton University Press. Levenson has lived for shorter periods in the former Yugoslavia, Russia, and India and has travelled widely in Europe, South-East Asia and Australia. He published several collections of poems, e.g., "Cairns" (1969), "Into the Open" (1977), "The Bridge (2000), “Local Time” (2006), and "Night Vision" (2014). He is a recipient of the 1960 Eric Gregory Award and the 1987 Archibald Lampman Award. Levenson is a member of the Writers' Union of Canada and lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, with his wife and four sons.
