Biographical history
Charles Jules Edmée Brongniart was born on February 11, 1859, in Paris, France.
He was a French entomologist, paleontologist, and author. He obtained his B.A. in 1879, B.Sc. in 1883, B.Sc. in Natural Sciences in 1886 and Ph.D. in 1894 with a thesis entitled “Research for the History of Fossil Insects of Primary Times”. For this publication, he received the Physics Prize of the Academy of Science. From 1880 to 1882, he was a chemistry teacher at the medical school and then at the school of pharmacy from 1882 to 1883. In 1886, he joined the National Museum of Natural History. A pioneer in the field of palaeoentomology, he made important contributions towards the understanding of insect evolution. He is remembered for his studies of Late Carboniferous fauna found in Commentry, France.
He died on April 18, 1899, in Paris, France.
