Peter Francis Leggat or Leggatt was born abt 1820 in the Rimouski region, Quebec.

He was a craftsman (carpenter, mason, joiner), entrepreneur, and merchant. He resided in Métis-sur-Mer, Québec, where he was involved in designing the Grand-Métis Presbyterian Church (1883-1884). Leggatt's Point, the land in the Métis vicinity, is named after him.
