History
Jorge (Georg) Lauffer was a German entomologist and field naturalist born in Augsburg, Bavaria, in 1859. He is best known for his work in Spain, where he served as an attached naturalist and entomologist at the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN) in Madrid.
Lauffer was an active member of the Real Sociedad Española de Historia Natural and contributed significantly to the study of insects, particularly Coleoptera (beetles). Through extensive fieldwork and collecting activities, he assembled important entomological collections, many of which are preserved at the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales in Madrid.
At the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Lauffer returned to Germany, where he spent the remainder of his life. He died in Germany in 1938. His scientific legacy endures through his collections and contributions to the development of entomology in Spain, especially in the study and documentation of beetle diversity.
