Satoru Kuwayama was a prominent Japanese entomologist who made significant contributions to the fields of agricultural entomology and insect taxonomy. He spent much of his career conducting research in northern Japan and broader East Asia, specializing in several distinct insect orders. He worked extensively at the Hokkaido National Agricultural Experiment Station, focusing on identifying insect pests that affected local food crops—most notably naming the destructive rice leaf beetle, Oulema oryzae (Kuwayama, 1929).
