Daniel E. Keen was the prominent Editor and Publisher of the Mt. Carmel Daily Republican, a historic local newspaper based in Mount Carmel, Illinois. He took over the Mt. Carmel Republican weekly edition in 1888. Under his leadership, he expanded the publication by launching its first daily edition, the Mt. Carmel Daily Republican, in 1899. In 1918, the newspaper merged with a local competitor to become the Mt. Carmel Daily Republican-Register, where Keen continued to serve as an editor and publisher alongside business partners. The publication traceably served Wabash County for generations, operating continuously through various historical changes. Its successor, the Mount Carmel Register, remains recognized as one of the oldest foundational community newspapers in the region. Digital archives of Keen's original runs are preserved through the Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections.
