Professor Orson B. Johnson (O.B. Johnson) was a pioneer naturalist and educator in the Pacific Northwest. Though his major institutional work (such as at the University of Washington) occurred in the 1880s and 1890s, he began his foundational field observations, bird cataloging, and specimen collecting during the 1870s, establishing the scientific study of nature in the region. His work primarily focused on ornithology and entomology, with wide-ranging field efforts that shaped the biological sciences in Washington and Oregon.
