Mentions that Osler is not taking his salary since the war began, and returned many impressive cheques.

Osler, who was paid 2000 $ for the Silliman Lectures, sent back the cheque as he could not respect the delay for publishing. Thomas McCrae writes to Grace to hustle up the text-book. Osler talked again of his catalogue. When he is awake at night, he thinks out introductions for different sections.

Suggests Osler find out what Carson is doing in regard to the matter, and if there is delay, to send him a cable which he will take up directly with the Minister at Ottawa." It may be possible to arrange. Deplores that the Unit did not come. The Harvard Unit and the Chicago Unit have had a good experience. The Chicago Unit has signed for a year. They are moving out of the tents which are not suited to the climate. All well. His opinion is that USA should get their boats ready. If the Allies go under, their turn comes next.
