Letter to Henry Mills Thomas from William Osler, S.S. "Seti", Egypt. Delightful trip on the Nile with his brother and five other friends. Just missed Thomas' sister and Miss Garrett at Luxor. Description of his itinerary. Would have like to see Thebes 1500 B.C. Comments on the genius of ancient Egyptians. Deplores the sanitary conditions of the country. The amount of ophthalmia and hookworm disease is appalling. The bilharzia is very bad. Will see the pellagra cases at the asylum. Wish the occidental would have been taught to pray in the Oriental style. Comments on Mahomet and the Islam, which is a great religion except for the woman question. Mentions their dragoman. Civilities. Asks if Hal has chance for Rhodes scholarship. Tells Trudeau to be kind to his parents. Sorry Mrs. Osler could not come. News of Revere.

Letter to Lewellys Franklin Barker from William Osler, S.S. "Seti", Cairo, Egypt. Received his letter of the 21st from Mrs. Osler. Surprised at Hurd's resignation. Hopes it is not a health matter. He had written to him. Kind comments about him. Glad Barker liked Thursfield. Delighted by his trip on the Nile. Bewildered by the intellectual development of man 6000 years ago. Mentions Imhotep, the physician of antiquity. Recommends he read "The Spell of Egypt" of Hichens. Flies are responsible, according to him , for 2/3 of the disease. Mentions the ophthalmia cases, the cases of blindness, the hook-worm disease. Comments on his visit to Looss who has not been given enough resources. The school is good, but not the hospital. Egypt did not have successors to Griesinger or Bilharz. Civilities.

Prof Sayre, Egyptologists and Weigall, the Director of Antiquities gave them hints as to what to see. Recommends the trip to him and his wife. Mentions his visit to the Tombs of the Kings and of 4 hours tour on a donkey. Mentions Barondi, their dragonian. Thanks him for offering a billet to W.W. Francis, but he would prefer him to stay at St. Agathe with his friend Byers. Asks him about his Summer plans. Civilities. He saw nothing at the Hoe sale.
