The majority of this collection is correspondence between Annie Holiday Pelletier and her parents Elise and William Holiday. The collection also includes correspondence with and between other family members, photographs, genealogical and biographical information, and miscellaneous material about the Rondeau, Holiday, and Pelletier families. Included is an early written exchange, circa 1864, between Elise Rondeau and a local parish priest who disagree on religious freedom and the interpretation of a biblical passage. The correspondence between Annie and her parents, including the period in which she is a student at McGill, is written in French (from and to her mother) and English (from and to her father). This correspondence provides a vital resource on early student life and the day-to-day concerns of a young woman living away from home in late 19th Montreal. The correspondence is rich in its detail and frankness on matters of family life, conflict, and religious and educational issues.
The Beverly Chandler fonds is comprised in part of documents she collected during service on the Students' Society Interim Management Committee, 1975-1976, set up by the University Senate in conjunction with the Interim Policy Committee to run affairs after the suspension of the Students' Society constitution. But also included are the records of her participation in the subsequent Students' Advisory Policy Committee established when the Senate placed the Society under trusteeship. Particularly rich in agendas and minutes, the fonds also includes related correspondence, reports and budgets, with some of its contents annotated.
The McGill Poster Collection documents posters and ephemera announcing campus activities, primarily in the 1970s with some 1980s and 1990s material present.
This fonds consists of Ashley's student notes for McGiII courses in English, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Spanish, radio scripts, theatre programs, clippings and photographs all reflecting Ashley's active participation in campus life. Of particular interest are Ashley's notes annotated with drawings and draft articles commenting on life at McGill.
The James S. Thomson fonds consists of handwritten sermons, lecture and teaching notes, prayers, lectures, addresses, photographs, clippings and book drafts reflecting Thomson's diverse career in administration, academic and church life. While most of the material concerns Thomson's work at McGiII's Faculty of Divinity and the Lay School of Theology, there is some material relating to his tenure at the University of Saskatchewan, the United Church of Canada and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Many of the sermons, lectures and addresses are not dated and could have been written in Scotland prior to his arrival in Canada.
The Martin K. Levinson fonds contains a student notebook for the School of Commerce, late 1920s and printed, annotated and loose notes for the School of Commerce, late 1920s.
