Bruce G. Trigger Fonds

The fonds documents Bruce Trigger’s research and teaching activities as a professor at McGill University, his participation at international conferences, his correspondence with an international network of colleagues and researchers, as well as his writing,
publishing, and editorial work, and some aspects of his personal life, including his secondary and post-secondary education. Records include course materials, correspondence, publications and articles, conference papers and associated materials, speeches, research and reading notes, photographs and slides, and awards, including medals, plaques, and certificates, inclusive 1953-2006. Trigger’s work as a field archaeologist is reflected in scrapbooks documenting early archaeological expeditions.

The fonds documents Herbert H. Jasper’s research activities at the Montreal Neurological Institute and the Centre de Recherches en Sciences Neurologiques at the Université de Montréal, his active travel and participation in international symposia and research organizations, his correspondence with an international network of researchers and colleagues, as well as his publishing and editorial work. A small amount of the materials also relate to his teaching activities at the Université de Montréal, as well as his personal life. Records include correspondence, conference and symposia materials, publications, research notes, photographs, and awards, including medals, plaques, and certificates. The majority of the materials are from the 1960s to the 1980s. Arrangement of the fonds varies by series, and includes subject, chronological, and alphabetical arrangement.

The collection documents the experiences of Japanese Canadians in Montréal and in Canada, as well as Japanese Canadian cultural and social contributions, over an approximately 60 year period, mainly 1940-2000.

The collection contains records reflecting the activities of the JCCCM organization and often related to individuals and/or families, and includes correspondence, photographs, and a variety of printed materials. The collection also contains detailed biographical records, compiled during the 1980s, related to the Issei, Nisei, and Sansei as well as other non-Japanese individuals active in the community. In addition, there are approximately 150 tape recordings, transcripts, and oral histories; art work and cultural contributions done by members of the Japanese community; directories, newspapers, publications, pamphlets, and records; administrative records of the NAJC chapter in Montréal; as well as local and national NAJC and JCCS records.

The series consist of 1) publications; 2) biographical files; 3) general subject files; 4) Japanese Canadian Centennial Society (JCCS) files; and 5) NAJC/ Redress files; 6) Exhibits; 7) Photographs. Many of the files are arranged alphabetically or by subject.

J.W. McConnell Fonds

This fonds contains records and supplementary material covering all three major aspects of the life of John Wilson McConnell: business and finance, social and philanthropic commitments, and family life. The records covering these subjects stem mainly from ca1898 to the time of McConnell’s death in 1963. Additional financial records exist past this date into the early 1970s due to the trusts administered by McConnell’s legacies. The nature of the records is reflected in the following series: 1) Correspondence; 2) Scrapbooks, Journals and Address books; 3) Personal and Family records; 4) Philanthropy; 5) High society; and 6) Business Commitments. The records in Series 4 and 5 are further subdivided into subseries: Philanthropy and Fundraising (Hospitals and Health Care; Higher Education; War Efforts); Business Commitments (Promotion; Commercial Trust Co.; Montreal Star; St. Lawrence Sugar Refineries; Property Holdings).

Professor Robert Vogel's fonds presents a mixture of his administrative, teaching and research activities from 1952 to 1994. Beside his professorial as well as administrative papers, he collected many supporting documents which helped him carry out different tasks. Vogel, Robert

Percy Ellwood Corbett Fonds

Percy Corbett’s fonds reflects his expertise in Roman and international law. The fonds mostly consists of lecture notes written by him for his courses on Roman and international law. Also part of the collection are two bound notebooks on constitutional history, political theory and international law from his student days in Oxford (1919-1924), a few manuscript and typescript essays on Roman law, notes on Canadian-American relations (1942), and notes on international law (1949). Included is a diary (1916), correspondence (including correspondence to the Wilder Penfield and his wife Helen Katherine Kermott Penfield (1944-1959 ), reference letters (1922-1983), articles and newspaper clippings (1920-1989). Cuurriculum vitae and hand-written record about Corbett’s life, wills, addresses, draft of biography of Percy Corbett written by his son David, reviews of P. E. Corbett’s work, and book reviews of Percy Corbett are part of the fonds. Included is also material for 1946 Conference - Moscow Report, common place book (1930’s-1940’s), tributes to Percy Corbett, typed and hand-written Statement and Memorandum on the American-Canadian relations (1958), typescript Impressions-Mostly Oxonian by Percy Corbett and article Oxford-Impressions. Jean Rogers Fonds

The most significant part of the fonds is the daily diary kept by Miss Rogers during her stay with Dr. Williamson in Tanganyika (1957-1958). There also printed programmes of Dr. Williamson’s funeral service including a copy of a eulogy, and newspaper clippings concerning Dr. Williamson (1956-1958). Non textual records comprise of snapshots taken in Tanganyika as well as two photographs of Dr. Williamson taken when he was a patient at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Gertrude Dupuy Mudge Fonds

The fonds comprises of letters from former students relating anecdotes about Gertrude Mudge (1964-1993), and letters from donors to the Gertrude Mudge Fund (1953). There is a copy of the duties of an assistant secretary, a reprint of an article (1944) by Miss. Mudge in tribute to Dr. James Crawford Simpson (for whom she worked for many years), related correspondence (1944), original draft of her acceptance speech for her honorary degree, and typed speech of Dr. G. Lyman Duff, the Dean of Faculty of Medicine, presenting the honorary degree (1955). Correspondence between Miss Mudge and the University Pension Department (1948-1953), and photocopies of articles concerning her retirement and death (1953-1958) are part of the collection. Non textual records include photographic negatives and prints for articles on Gertrude Mudge, as well as some personal snapshots.
