Digital Clock

Switzerland Pavilion

Exterior view photograph. Switzerland Pavilion exterior (lot B-307). The three storey Switzerland Pavilion was designed to convey a feeling of both warmth and openess. Warmth was successfully achieved by use of dark wood finishes. The completely glazed ground floor created a feeling of openess, welcoming Expo visitors. The ground floor exhibition primarily showcased Swedish works of art. The main exhibition was located on the second floor where exhibits on geography, industry, resources, political and social structures were showcased. Popular exhibits included that of the watch industry which boasted a cesium activated atomic clock. A 500-seat auditorium featured a 20 minute film about Switzerland. A three level restaurant and exterior dining area offered fine Swedish food and drink. Rectilinear volume with circular theatre. Structural steel with oiled cedar slats on cedar planks. Steel Pavilion

Exterior view photograph. Steel Industries Pavilion exterior (lot C-483). A ten storey high roof soared over the single storey pavilion themed "Might of Man". The pavilion showcased through it's exposed structure and building fabric the possibilities of steel contruction. Visitors were explored the experience of being in a steel mill as they were taken through three main exhibits entitled "Might of Fire", "Might of Mill" and "Might of Metal". The tour featured models, films and photographs telling the storey of steel. At the end of the tour was a 350 seat theatre whose show portrayed man's journey through the process of controlling elements. Rectangular plan with A-frame resulting in triangular elevation. Sermons From Science Pavilion

The one storey Sermons from Science pavilion is well detailed building designed for efficiency in its functional requirements. The auditorium building present a modern Christian viewpoint boasting a 300 seat auditorium complete with a demonstration stage and projection room. The shows projected the message that scientific laws proved the existance of a "Supreme Planner". Demonstrations included talking flashlights and liquid light from cold chemicals. A crowd favorite was a million-volt flash of lightning. The pavilion's exterior walls staggered to follow the stage contours. The rear of the building hosued administrtion areas as well as a 75 seat conference theatre with commentary in six languages. Rectalinear volume.
