Asks him to send him a paper on the gout work, as he would like to add a name on his next Edition. Mentions that Dysentery cases are beginning to come from the East. Russia is getting a bad knock-out, but it is brighter for England and France. Revere is happy with the McGill Unit. Asks for a photo of his babies. P.S. Mentions that his secretary, his chauffeur and his butler are gone.

Gives his opinion on the way to manage work in a type of hospital closely associated with a University. In that case, it is better to have the practice confined entirely to the members of the staff. Explains that it creates a hopeless confusion to have half a dozen men in attendance whose ways of work are different. Allusion to the new tendency in the fresh graduate to aspire to become a surgical Mayo, which becomes a difficulty. For everyone's sake, it is better to develop a few really distinguished men in the departments than to encourage a wholesale mediocrity.
