Thomas Douglas Selkirk Collection

These are letters from Selkirk to Miles MacDonnell, 1811-1813 and instructions concerning wages and contracts. Thirteen documents concern Lord Selkirk's conflict with the North West Company at the Red River Colony and Fort William.There is also a letter to Colonel Benjamin Walker, 1816.

Muses’ Company Fonds

The fonds chiefly consists chiefly of records related to the editing and publishing work of the Muses' Company press. The fonds consists of seven series: manuscripts; financial records; publications; correspondence; records related to the Association des éditeurs anglophone de Québec; records relating to the Association of Canadian Publishers; and records relating to the Literary Press Group. Most of the records were either created or accumulated by Endre Farkas in relation to the Muses’ Co. publications between 1980 and 1995. Records relating to publishing include manuscripts of works, page proofs with corrections, editors’ and authors’ notes, published books, and publicity materials. Other production records within the fonds include correspondence, pamphlets, photographs, layouts, and drawings for covers. These manuscripts also often have accompanying materials including photos and correspondence, in particular for the Dance Agenda project. There is also correspondence including exchanges with authors such as Ken Norris, Kenneth Radu, Katharine Beeman, Elias Letelier-Ruz, Ian Stephans, and Sharon H. Nelson as well as notes to Leonard Cohen. The company's financial records in the fonds consist income tax receipts, statement of earnings, reports of sales of books, buyers, quotes, invoices, funding applications, contracts and correspondence. Notable financial records include book sales from the McGill University Bookstore, as well as the universities of Toronto, Waterloo, Calgary, and Maine. Other records include materials from the Association des éditeurs anglophone du Québec (1991-1994), the Canada Grant Council, the Association of Canadian Publishers, the Literary Press Group. Also represented is the Quanglo Tour itinerary including posters, postcards, and advertisements (1994-1995).

Muses' Company

Maude Lilian Bremner collection

Collection includes a scrapbook created by Maude Lilian Bremner during her time in South Africa as a teacher to Boer children in refugee camps, as well as other related loose clippings and ephemera. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, postcards, and other ephemera tipped in. Many of the clippings are articles reprinting letters written home by Bremner and other volunteer teachers in her contingent. Collection also includes a published Memorandum respecting the engagement of teachers for the refugee camps in South Africa.

Collection consists of programmes, guides, brochures, catalogues, and other ephemera from various world fairs and international exhibitions, including: Expo '86 Vancouver (1986), Expo '70 Osaka (1970), Exposition internationale in Paris (1937), Franco-British Exhibition (1908), Liverpool (1913), Exhibition universelle (1900), Latin-British Exhibition (1912), Canadian National Exhibition Toronto (1908), Golden Gate Exhibition (1939), New York World's Fair (1939), International Exhibition (1862), Irish International Exhibition (1907), New York Exhibition of the Industry of all Nations (1853), St. Louis World Fair (1904), Universal Exhibition Antwerp (1885), World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago (1893), International Exhibition of 1876 in Philadelphia (1876), Chicago World's Fair (1934), and British Empire Exhibition (1924). The collection also includes postcards for various other world fairs and international exhibitions, and some country publications.

Geraldine Cole Fonds

Fonds consists chiefly of ephemera and correspondence relating to the work of wood engravers of Thomas and John Bewick of Newcastle, England, in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The ephemera found in series 1 includes various examples of fine printing, including proofs and printed keepsakes featuring Bewick engravings from printers such as Havilah Press and Anchor and Acorn Press. Series 2 contains correspondence, chiefly between Geraldine Cole and booksellers, as well as general correspondence with friends and acquaintances. Series 3 consists primarily of bookseller descriptions and clippings and excerpts from catalogues describing Bewick works (generally with the catalogue cover appended to a loose page on which a Bewick item appears). Some are with accompanying correspondence. Also included in this series are documents listing all of the items found in the Cole-Bewick Collection at McGill Library. Series 4 consists of other ephemera related to Bewick and his life, including short biographical pieces, postcards and products featuring Bewick engravings and watercolours, and articles and clippings. The last file in this series contains 4 original letters from Thomas Bewick to various correspondents, dating between 1819 to 1825. Series 5 contains a number of subject files relate to specific projects or organizations, including the Bewick Society.
