Juda Hirsch Quastel Collection

The collection consists of informational files on Juda Hirsch Quastel, collected by T. L. Sourkes and F. C. MacIntosh for a biography of J. H. Quastel for "Memoirs of the Royal Society of London", vol. 36, 1990. The files include material from the Royal Society itself, letters from many people about Quastel, laudatory articles about him along with obituaries about his death, some notes by Hank in his handwriting, and other items.

Frederick T. Bason collection

Collection consists chiefly of manuscripts produced by Frederick T. Bason, including a handwritten version of the author's manuscript "Summer" (19 leaves, written in 1962) and a two-part typescript of "The Last Bassoon," complete with the editor's corrections (part 1, pages 1-132 and part 2, pages 133-291). File 2 also includes a 24-page booklet of "Fred Bason goes fishing," published in 1959. File 1 also contains the following items: 1. A typewritten note from Fred Bason addressed to the owner of the original manuscript of 'The Last Bassoon,' dated January 1962. 2. A typewritten one-page list titled "Fred Bason has for sale the following splendid books." 3. A two-page handwritten letter dated January 1961, addressed to M. James, written on Fred Bason's author letterhead. In this letter, Bason expresses his gratitude for a cheque for a purchased manuscript, discusses his lectures in England, and mentions potential lectures in Quebec, specifically at McGill University.

Half of these records consist of printed annual announcements (including Canadian Medical Register) from 1914 to 1961. The remainder consists of a number of files on "old controversies" stripped from the MCC files in 1955 and sent to Dr. D. Sclater Lewis. Some of the controversies concerned a move to amalgamate MCC examinations with final-year university medical examinations, 1941; the status of homeopathic practitioners, 1923-1940; registration in the U.K., 1914-1925; the petition of returning military medical officers to take the MCC licence without examination, 1919; and control of specialists by the MCC, 1934-1935.

Krebiozen Collection

File consists chiefly of letters, receipts, customs documents, and other materials related to a patient's procurement of the disproven cancer drug Krebiozen from 1960 to1961. Also contains clippings and articles about Krebiozen, which was introduced in the 1950s and proven to be fraudulent as a treatment in the early 1960s. Includes correspondence with the Krebiozen Research Foundation and Stevan Durovic, one of the perpetrators of the Krebiozen fraud. Also contains a publication entitled "The dangers of radiation," produced by the Independent Cancer Research Foundation. One additional letter dated 1958 is from the Chairman of the "Committee for a Fair Test of Krebiozen."

Collection consists of an illustrated manuscript containing a map and brief guidebook to Paris landmarks, created by Nicole Allardet probably during the 1940s or 1950s. The item is inscribed to Vivienne Horne. A folded booklet on heavy grey paper, the guidebook contains twelve panels, ten of which feature a gouache illustrated vignette of a Paris landmark and a short handwritten description in white. The landmarks include the Jardin du Luxembourg, Opera House, Eiffel Tower, the river Seine, the Bois de Vincennes, Notre-Dame de Paris, the Jardin des Tuileries, the Champs-Élysées, Montmartre, and the Luxor Obelisk in the Place de la Concorde. In the centermost two panels is a simple map of Paris showing the landmarks depicted.

The collection consists of written correspondence between Dr. Clarence B. Farrar and Dr. Franklin G. Ebaugh concerning reproductive rights for victims of rape in relation to the case of a Denver woman who was the victim of rape in 1955. The woman ended up giving birth to a child after she was denied an abortion by doctors and lawyers. The collection also includes a three-page editorial titled "Legal Abortions" that cites Chapter 40, Article 2, Section 23 of the Colorado Revised Statutes 1953.
