Medieval cuisine

File relate chiefly to European medieval food history, including notes and conference materials are included from 1990 medieval cuisine conference at the Université de Montréal. Also included are research materials and conference presentations related to European early modern and North American Indigenous food history.

Honey

File contains lists of beekeepers and honey producers, fact sheets on Canadian honey, pamphlets from producers and the Canadian Honey Council, and correspondence.

Miscellaneous

File contains itineraries for multiple trips: Charlevoix, 2002; Métis, 2003; Lower St. Lawrence, 2001 and 1999; Eastern Quebec, 2002; Gaspé, 2000, as well as printed email correspondence (some about Métis trip), clippings, and handwritten notes about food and producers

Gatineau (Lachute etc.)

File includes Alice Benis' recipes, handwritten recipes and notes (directories), correspondence of recipes, and official announcements and letters.

Cookbook History

File consists of files on the history of cookbooks in Canada, including correspondence, clippings, copies or photocopies of articles, including from the New York Times and Publisher's Weekly, and some of Armstrong's manuscript notes. letters with lists of cookbooks. Correspondence consists partially of letters to Armstrong from readers regarding an article on old cookbooks. Other correspondence is related to historical cookbooks in library collections. In particular, correspondence with Elizabeth Driver refers to her preparation of a bibliography of Canadian cookbooks and her research. Related documents also include two typescripts of a talk on Canadian cookbook history, a copy of a news article on the project (print-out on continuous paper), and a press release from the University of Guelph media relations office on the project. File also includes a typescript of speech by Armstrong given to the Ontario Historical Society May 3 1996: "The Rise of the Printed Word"

Saguenay

Contains brochures, a 9-paged fax letter of 8 recipes, hand-written and printed recipes, a printed menu. Also, a letter from l'Association des Tremblay d'Amerique with an attached letter dated from 1838. It also includes handwritten notes, photocopies of recipes and messages, notes of phone numbers and addresses, hand-drawn map, postcards, pamphlets, and business cards. Also, a printed article about Auberge Villa Pachon, and a handwritten letter with pamphlets and magazine clippings attached.

Beauce (Chaudière-Appalaches)

File consists primarily of tourist information about Beauce, including brochures, pamphlets, and magazine clippings about antiques, museums, and maple syrup. Also included are business cards from local restaurants and food producers, letters, and some handwritten memos and notes. File also contains, in particular, informational packet on maple syrup and a number of maple syrup recipes.

A Taste of Quebec - clippings

File relates chiefly to Armstrong's 1990 publication "A Taste of Quebec," including folders of promotional material, and its updated version from 2001. Includes many clippings with 2001 book reviews.

Côte-du-Sud

File consists chiefly of tourist information about the historic region of Côte-du-Sud (encompassing the administrative regions of Chaudière-Appalaches and Bas-Saint-Laurent), including brochures, pamphlets, magazine clippings, postcards, maps, business cards, letters with restaurant recommendations, articles, recipes, and instructions. File contains some handwritten notes and annotations. File also includes letters with recipes, photographs, and one floppy disk.

Quebec general (more than one region)

File consists of research materials on Quebec cuisine more generally. It includes correspondence, notably on behalf of Cuisine Canada; lists of names of chefs, restaurants, and food producers accompanied by business cards, menus, and brochures; magazine and newspaper clippings including from The Gazette and the Financial Times; conference agenda and handwritten speaking notes; printed and photocopied articles; typescript of article draft for Chimo, the newsletter of Cuisine Canada, and annotated typescripts of recipes for Armstrong's book "Gôut du Québec"; invoices. As well as tourist guides and photocopied information sheets about Quebec food products and agricultural industries (such as goat milk).
