Letter to Arnold Carl Klebs, January 22, 1912

Letter to Arnold Carl Klebs from William Osler, 13, Norham Gardens, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Delighted with the Ufenau pictures. Answers that yes, he remembers Varro's reference, as Hektoen put it in the front of his article on my System. The book he finds most useful is Bayle's "Biographie Medicale." Comments about it.

Letter to William Osler, January 25, 1912

Letter to William Osler from Francis Gotch, The Lawn, Banbury Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He returns him Doyle's letter. It does not change the necessity of appointing an Examiner for the Diploma on next Saturday. Suggests to consider the name of Dr. J. H. Parsons or Priestley Smith. Asks him if he has thought of some other names. Mentions monetary problems concerning the arrangements for the Diploma. Mention of the troubled situation of Doyle and the complicated conditions associated with the Eye Hospital.

Letter to Thomas Lewis, February 5, 1912

Letter to Thomas Lewis from William Osler, From the Regius Professor of Medicine, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Agrees with the idea of doing something for Einthoven. Would like to give him a dinner at the Athenaeum, or if Lewis and McKenzie think best, a number of doctors could give him a dinner together. Will invite him to visit him in Oxford, where he could see Miss Buchanan. It might be best if he had him meet 24 or 25 men at the Athenaeum. Civilities.

Letter to Arnold Carl Klebs, February 5, 1912

Letter to Arnold Carl Klebs from William Osler, 13, Norham Gardens, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Thanks for the memorandum about Hutten. Details about the many editions of his books. At the Payne's library, he bought Hutten's stirring appeal "Ad Principes Germanos ut Bellum Turcis Inferant", 1518. Would be glad to hear about the monuments. Mentions that he has many Gesner's books and that he is devoted to his memory. Opinion on Von Hutten' life which was not more dissipated than the average man of his period. He is just reading "Epistolas obscororum vivorum." If that is true, it is not surprising that he dedicated his "De Guaiaci" to Archbishop Albert.

Letter to Henry Phipps, March 18, 1912

Letter to Henry Phipps from William Osler, From the Regius Professor of Medicine, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Distressed about the Whites' accident. Glad he liked the book. Approves his idea of inviting the leading alienists to the opening of the Clinic. It could be made the occasion of a discussion on ways and methods of dealing with the insane, which would stimulate work in America. Hopes that the opening will be during his sojourn in America for the Silliman lectures at Yale, in October. Civilities.

Letter to William Sydney Thayer, April 21, 1912

Letter to William Sydney Thayer from William Osler, Cannes, France. (Postcard). Mentions that he will be in Cannes for a few days with the Jacobs. Congress was not up to much, badly organized. Mrs. Murray, Ezra Thayer's sister-in-law, told him that he had declined the Harvard position. It must have been a great temptation. Revere is fine. Love to Sister Susan.

Letter to Adolf Meyer, May 1, 1912

Letter to Adolf Meyer from William Osler, From the Regius Professor of Medicine, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Glad that he thinks that the opening should not take place until the Clinic is in order. Late next Spring would be far enough advanced. Supposes that it would be possible to arrange the course so that the man could take Meyer's clinics which will be attractive to many practitioners in the town. The outlook is fascinating, and would like to have a chat about his plans next Fall. Civilities. P.S. Mention of his trip in Italy.
