Letter to William Sydney Thayer, October 16, 1914

Letter to William Sydney Thayer from William Osler, From the Regius Professor of Medicine, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Thanks for the cable. It was a great worry not to be at the Celebration (25th anniversary of the opening of the Johns Hopkins Hospital). Mentions that they are working hard, particularly Grace. They have 12 Belgian professors, 61 in all with their families. The Belgian business is an awful tragedy. Mentions the horror felt in seeing the refugees at Folkestone. The Canadian Contingent Hospital has been opened, not far from Folkestone. Asks him if he had read Baron Larrey "His Life and Memoirs." Good comments on it. Mentions that he is trying to aware the Territorial Medical Officers of the importance of the health in the camps. There had been little or no sickness so far, probably because the weather has been nice. Revere is at Christ Church, and has joined the Officer's Training Corps. Civilities. P.S. Miss MacMahon is in charge of the Canadian Hospital.

Letter to W.D. Keith, October 29, 1914

Letter to W.D. Keith from William Osler, From the Regius Professor of Medicine, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. The programme of their medical association (Vancouver Medical Association) is interesting. Makes a single criticism of the fact that they are in the King Edward High School. His opinion is that the city is large enough for the profession to have its own home. Suggests taking the model of Toronto and of some American cities. Practical advice. Would send 100 $ to help. He has seen in so many cases the enormous advantage of a home for the general profession that he commends the scheme to him heartily.
