Badgley Family Fonds

William Badgley's papers form the bulk of the family's papers and consist of a book of legal notes and judgments, 1801-1826; legal commissions, 1823-1866; as well as circulars, petitions and correspondence for the Constitutional Association, 1834-1839. Other papers include family correspondence, 1823-1829, and deeds of sale, 1831-1852, of James Thompson Badgley.

Aerial photograph collection

This collection consists chiefly of aerial photographs as well as some stereograms, dated from 1930 to 1976. The first six containers consist of Landsat 1:1 000 000 Prints & Negatives. The photographs depict various geographic and geological features including mountains, deserts, volcanoes, farmland, lakes, and rivers. Some photographs depict roads, settlements, and dams. Canada and the United States features prominently in this collection however there are also photographs of the Caribbean, South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. There are also documents most of which are indexes to the photographs. There are also shipping transmittals, survey cards, letters, a purchase order, and diagrams with flight lines and photo set numbers. The maps in this collection are of flight lines (some with film roll numbers added), hand-drawn maps of locations in the photographs, geographic maps, and physiographic maps.

McGill College collection

Collection contains two financial documents related to McGill College. The first is a memorandum between the College and its creditors in which the College agrees to pay out dividends and pay in installments towards the balance of the College's debt. It is signed by the individual creditors as well as by the principal of McGill College, Edmund A. Meredith. The memorandum contains a list of creditors of McGill College with their names and occupations listed, including William Lyman, druggist, Robert Abraham, printer, John Keller, merchant, and many others. A note dated 24 March 1847 with a response from representatives of the creditors is pasted on. The second document is a ledger sheet dated from 1844 to 1847 with the caption: "The Directors of McGill College to Joseph Hitchens."

These papers consist of Sheppard's letters to his sister, Margaret, in England, 1841-1861, and a few incoming letters from family and friends including one from his son William about the Prince of Wales' visit in 1860.

James Bissett Collection

Correspondence, accounts, journals maps, etc., documenting Bissett’s career with the Hudson’s Bay Company. The Photostats (in C.1 and C.2) include Bissett’s journal and accounts at the Red River, 1854-1855, and a journal “Lachine to the Sandwich Islands” 1858-1859. There are also journals for 1859 and 1867. The original documents (in C.3) include correspondence with the Hudson’s Bay Company, 1858-1875, and accounts, 1860-1873. There are Bissett’s commissions as Chief Trader (1858) and as Chief Factor (1872), and a list of Chief Traders and Factors, 1855-1879. There are also some plans / maps, sketches, and photographs including a sketch of the Hudson’s Bay Post at Honolulu, ca. 1860.

Robert E. Peary collection

The collection consists of correspondence, publishers' agreements, receipts, telegrams, and a Travelers Insurance policy. It also includes the manuscript for the article "Yankee Doodle, Miss Columbia & Ahngmaloktok," which was published in St. Nicholas, Volume 32, Number 2 (1904) under the title "Yankee Doodle and Miss Columbia." The policy from The Travelers Insurance Company of Hartford, Connecticut, is for Robert E. Peary, dated November 13, 1909. The policy amount is US 50,000 with a premium of US 611.10, covering the period from November 1909 to August 1910. The collection also contains a letter from Ballard & Garrett, Inc. to Broadway Magazine, Inc., acknowledging the official receipt of The Travelers Insurance policy covering Robert E. Peary, a two-page Agreement between Robert E. Peary and Broadway Magazine, Inc., dated November 4, 1909, in which Peary agrees to write a story about his journey to the North Pole, Peary's signed receipt of the agreement and a letter from Benjamin B. Hampton, President of Broadway Magazine, Inc., expressing consent for the Frederick A. Stokes Company to publish all or part of Peary's story, Peary's handwritten copy of a telegram to the President of Hampton's Magazine regarding additional article, as well as the magazine's telegram consenting to his request, two handwritten letters from Peary regarding his writing materials (1892) and thanking the Aluminum Coal Company for supplying his ships (1898). It also includes a typed letter acknowledging the receipt of the North Pole flag (1910), and a typewritten letter from Benjamin Hampton to Commander Robert E. Peary, dated October 2, 1909, regarding Mr. Peary's payment. Lastly, there is a typewritten letter from The American Magazine to Hampton's Magazine, returning the loaned letter from Commander R. E. Peary. The manuscript of "Yankee Doodle, Miss Columbia & Ahngmaloktok" is in File 2 (16 leaves, leaves 2 and 5 are missing).

Indigenous language instruction audio collection

The collection consists primarily of recordings on audio cassette of beginner-level language lessons in Ojibwa, Cree, and Inuktitut; authored variously by Basil Johnston, S.T. Mallon et al., C. Douglas Ellis et al., and Louis-Philippe Vaillancourt. The majority of the included material dates from the 1970s. The accompanying language learning texts for the Ojibwa and Inuktitut audiocassettes are included in the collection, along with duplicate recordings of 35 of the Cree audiocassettes on 25 compact discs. The collection also contains a recording of the 1995 CBC Calgary radio program "Voices of the First Nations : The Prairies."

Contains six hand-delivered memos ("per sua mano"), via a third party, addressed to "Dotto Mon.(Signor) Cav(aliere) Camillo Guidi," which likely accompanied other documents. Likely attribution to Rocco (Niccolò) dell'Antella.
