Non-Canadian Serials

This subseries consists of non-Canadian serials collected by Roy State during primarily the 1970s. The majority of the serials are produced by either Black or African groups and organizations. Also includes some periodicals from the Arab world. Some of the serials are issues of non-Black-produced periodicals, such as Time or History of the 20th century, that contain articles on Black history.

Canadian newspapers

This subseries consists of Canadian newspapers primarily from the 1970s collected by Roy States, including 45 issues of Contrast (between Sept. 16, 1970 and Nov. 8, 1979), 16 issues of Oracle (between Nov. 4, 1976 and May 19, 1977), scattered issues of Uhuru, The Black voice, Ebony Express, Atlantic Black journal, Grasp, The Islander, and some single issues, including of Black Labour, Bulletin Maison d'Haiti, and others.

Albums and scrapbooks

This subseries consists of two volumes of clippings and photocopies: a photo album pertaining chiefly to notable Black historical figures, and a scrapbook pertaining to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Brian Moore correspondence

Subseries consists of letters from Moore to Weintraub written between 1951 and 1998 (603 letters) and from Weintraub to Moore between 1950 and 1999 (280 letters).

Mordecai Richler correspondence

Subseries consists of letters from Richler to Weintraub written between 1951 and 1971 (210 letters) and from Weintraub to Richler written between 1951 and 1972 (123 letters).

Mavis Gallant correspondence

Correspondence consists of letters between Mavis Gallant and William Weintraub, including 8 letters from 1950 and 1951, 12 letters from 1984 to 1993, 10 letters from 1994, 11 letters from 1995, 9 letters from 1996, 14 letters from 1997, 16 letters from 1998, 13 letters from 1999, 15 letters from 2000, and 19 letters from 2001.

Personal correspondence

The personal correspondence subseries includes letters of a non-literary nature with Morrissey’s family and friends. Included here are letters from Morrissey’s brother, John R. Morrissey; correspondence between Morrissey and his mother, Hilda Nichols; a correspondence between Morrissey and Pat McCarty and Sally McKenzie; a twenty-four year correspondence between Morrissey and R.R. Skinner; a correspondence between Morrissey and Hilde and Dennis Johnson; greeting cards and other letters. Box 22 contains business correspondence and miscellaneous letters.
