Memorabilia

This sub-series contains one small red leather pouch with “H. Lewis” written in pen on the interior and one empty metal frame included in the original donation and accessioned with the rest of the collection.

This sub-series contains Penfield’s passports, commission, some medical records, and a photocopy of his will.

Memorabilia

This sub-series consists of varied materials including maps, event programs, newspaper clippings, travel itineraries, and other souvenirs collected by Helen to commemorate events, experiences, or places visited throughout her life with Wilder. This sub-series includes materials collection by Helen from her service in the war, her life in England, her travels with Wilder, and her varied social activities in Montreal. This sub-series also contains Helen’s detailed family chronicle spanning the years 1921-1963, and a biographical sketch of Wilder, written in 1956.

Research Files

This sub-series consists of all manner of notes and a variety of secondary materials gathered by Lewis as he researched the life of his grandfather. Secondary materials include historical publications, photocopies of reference works, scientific article reprints, and newspaper and magazine clippings. These series also contains dubbed copies of taped interviews with Penfield obtained by Lewis through the CBC, as well as transcripts of these interviews and others conducted by Lewis in the course of preparing the biography.

Manuscript Drafts

This sub-series consists of various drafts of Something Hidden. The drafts are not always easy to distinguish in terms of chronological sequence, but an effort was made during the initial processing to roughly order the drafts by version and divide them by chapter. Also included are notes for additions and deletions, labeled “Adds and Outs.” At times, some research notes and primary Penfield material are interfiled with the drafts. This series also includes a draft of the screenplay for the film.

Television and Radio Broadcastings

Subseries consists of records related to television and radio broadcasts. Contains 1 file of correspondence and a questionnaire.

Properties, Apartment and Gardening

The sub-series consists of 9 files on or related to Dr. Vineberg's property in Montreal (3170, de La Vigne Road), his country house in Saint-Sauveur and his apartment in Montreal (4300, Sherbrooke Street). It contains documents linked to the acquisition, selling, renting, taxes, the upkeep of the houses and the trees and the maintenance, the insurances. Includes : correspondence, plans, bills, tax receipts, tenancy agreements, deed of sales, offer to purchase, legal agreement, tax assessments, writ of summons and an affidavit.

Invoicing/Billing and Recovering

Sub-series consists of four files pertaining to the billing and recovering of money due by patients or their estate for operations performed by Dr. Vineberg. One file regards bills and the three others are about collection of money. Links of Vineberg with collection department of legal firms (Ogilvy, Cope,Porteous, Hansard, Marler, Montgomery & Renault and Lazarus, Lehrer & Baer) Includes correspondence, legal correspondence, statements, ledger sheets, lists, operation report, telegrams, notes, one report sheet and one creditor's claim sheet.

Research/special Funds Accounting

Sub-series contains seven files pertaining to the accounting of several special funds used by Vineberg. It gives a partial view of the special funds he had. The files are arranged in alphabetical order.
