Fonds consists of personal and professional papers of Canadian poet and novelist Penn Kemp. It contains personal and biographical files, including CVs and miscellaneous photos and drawings, as well as some family records. Within the professional materials are documentation of activities related to Kemp's career, such as grant materials, school press kits, workshop materials, professional correspondence, and records related to tours, as well as a comprehensive file of Kemp's creative output.
Much of the collection is family correspondence and papers relating to the hardware business of Thomas D. Patton, 1816-1884. There are also papers and military notebooks of Sergeant George Patton, 1823-1856 and letters concerning Douglas Church and the St. Lawrence Sunday School, Montréal, 1853-1854.
This collection contains a deed of assignment prepared for the firm Patterson and Co., created on 17 April 1811, with several renewals and additions, the last of which was on 22 June 1814. The deed of assignment includes many merchants and firms as attorneys or signatories, many of whom were involved in the fur trade and the North West Company.
Fonds contain the personal and professional dealings of the Papineau Family, beginning with Louis-Joseph Papineau in 1828, following through his descendents, to 1943. Dealings include land grants, social events, real estate, interpersonal and business related financial notices, notes on construction projects supervised by or funded by the Papineau family, and charitable pursuits. The fonds consists of the following series: Legal, Business, and Financial Documents, Ledgers, Account Books, and Notes, Correspondence & Personal Papers, Genealogical Materials. Majority of the files are titled according to creator rather than content and series are contained within chronological boxes (with the exception of container number 9 belonging to the Legal, Business, and Financial Documents series alongside container number 1 and container number 2). These materials were created for the purpose of keeping track of the interpersonal and business transactions of the Papineau family.
The fonds consists primarily of written material, most of which seems to be from the hand of Palmer Cox (poems, speeches, drafts of published or unpublished works). There is also some graphic material, financial records and parts of correspondence. The fonds also contains several graphic parts illustrating Brownies books in the making.
These fonds comprise 12 softbound manuscript volumes of lectures, plays, notes and ephemera by Oswald Hughes. The first manuscript is a lecture entitled: "Descriptive lecture on the Mail Route through Italy".
This material comprises a group of official documents, and correspondence among various partners. The official documents include four articles of agreement for partnership between various Montréal companies, largely with McTavish, Frobisher and Co., 1790-1802, and a memorandum on the effect of exchange differences on the partners' shares (approximately 1826). The partners' correspondence, approximately 1792-1808, contains letters from Simon McTavish, Isaac Todd, and Alexander Mackenzie concerning provisions, business agreements and loans. A letter from William McGillivray to Mr Justice Reid discusses family matters. One financial ledger for the North West Company contains business accounts and records transactions. The bulk of entries are dated from January 1810 to November 1825, with some entries dated 1861.
Fonds contains a character sketch in prose of "Aunt Mary." McLeod later published a chapter entitled "Aunt Mary" in his book, "Character Sketches" (New York: Dodd, Mead, & Company, 1876).
