This material consists of business documents and correspondence reflecting the activities of the St. Lawrence Steamboat Co., mostly for the pre-1840 period, although there are documents dating to 1863. The major portion of the fonds, comprising 83 of a total 89 volumes, consist of freight books (1819-1833) and passage books (1822-1838). These logs provide information on passengers and goods carried between Montreal and Quebec, as well as other stops such as Chambly. The fonds includes information on fifteen steamboats and two barges, operated by the St. Lawrence Steamboat Company, which made voyages between 1819 and 1838. The data found in the vessel logs in the fonds include names of vessels, details on their crews, quantities of fuel aboard such as wood and coal, and the number of downbound voyages (that is, from Montreal to Quebec) and upbound voyages per seasons (generally from May through November). Lists of cabin and steerage passengers as well as descriptions and quantities of goods carried between Montreal, Chambly, Sorel, Trois-Rivieres, and Quebec are also sometimes included in the logs. The information also includes charges levied for passage and for freight as well as the names of consignors (shippers of goods) and consignees (receivers of goods, usually a merchant), as well as the destination address. The steamboats found in the fonds also frequently towed barges and brigs, whose names are sometimes recorded along with the charges levied. In addition to these vessel logs, the fonds also includes: account books, 1803-1818, 1844, 1851; wage books, 1826-1832-1835; bills of lading, 1812-1813; and letterbooks, 1827-1829, 1843-1863. One book of account pertains to laundering costs for the years 1819 to 1828; a journal (log book) for the “Lady Sherbrooke” for 1823 is also included. Finally, there is an inventory of furniture, bedding and wares onboard th steamers in 1829, 1831, and 1833, and an unrelated and incomplete pay list for dock workers dated September 1892.

Frost's papers reflect his activities as a speaker and writer on religious topics, as well as some aspects of his work in education. Typescript addresses range from plain sermons and talks on Christmas, the Christian view of the Bible and the preaching ministry of Jesus, to remarks at a McGill symposium (1964) on "The nature and origin of life", and a paper presented to the Society of Biblical Literature and Exegesis on "Apocalyptic and history" (1964), as well as an introductory speech before the Institute of Judaism at Temple Emanu-El. There are also programmes for church lecture series in which Frost participated. His publications from 1958 to 1962 are documented by correspondence, clippings and off-prints. A special file of correspondence concerning his book The Beginning of the Promise also contains reviews (1960). Photographs and press clippings record Frost's career as an educator at McGill; there is also a copy of his report (co-authored with Chalmers Coe) of a visitation of Gordon Divinity School conducted on behalf of the American Association of Theological Schools (1959) and an address to Sigma Xi on 'Research and the Humanities' (1966).

The Mason fonds reflects his functions at the Chemistry Department and the Pulp and Paper Research Institute. The collection comprises of administrative and research files, including mainly correspondence, notes, programs, memoranda, files on scientific associations, reports and Dr. Mason’s lecture notes (1946). Non textual records consist of photographs representing apparatus, laboratories and buildings, receipt of Prix Marie-Victorin (1986), one video cassette on AMason Day” (1979) to celebrate his career and a collection of drawings. Included is a set of 8 chronologically arranged volumes of Dr. Mason's published articles (1940-1983).

The Stephen A. Scott fonds contains Faculty of Law administrative correspondence and course notes and tutorials, 1967-1986.

Millen's papers fall into three series: records from his legal career, records from his business career, and files concerning McGill. Documenting his career as a lawyer are 8 cm of correspondence regarding lawsuits and court cases, interspersed with some personal matters, e.g. the affairs of the Graduates' Society (1930-1934). Appointment diaries cover the years 1931-1933. The bulk of this archive is a group of business files (1949-1970), containing accounting reports and financial statements for John Millen and Co., some miscellaneous correspondence, and clippings concerning business and politics. Millen's work for the Graduates' Society and as a McGill governor is the subject of files of correspondence, memoranda, minutes and printed material, largely on fund raising and athletics (1930-1972). These Leacock papers are almost entirely concerned with the literary side of his career. The literary manuscripts include his copies of "Teaching the Unteachable" (n.d.) and "The Truth about the College Girl" (1927, with covering letter), as well as a single page of an undated murder mystery. His speaking engagements are briefly recorded in a pocket diary for 1925; a single letter from 1933 declines an invitation to address a club. Pictorial materials portray Leacock in a more academic setting: a snapshot of a Commercial Society luncheon (1931), a photograph of F.M.G. Johnson's sketch, now in McGill's Faculty Club (1932), and a pencil portrait by Kathleen Thatcher.

Leacock's papers comprise manuscripts of books, articles, and speeches written ca 1913-1937: included are Leacock's history of Montréal, and comic pieces such as "Too Much College", "The Stamp Album World", "Simple Stories of Success" and "Bed-Time, Stories for Grown-Up People". Correspondence covers the period ca 1915-1944. There are also newspaper articles by and about Leacock; book orders and related correspondence; manuscripts of articles and speeches about Leacock; and correspondence concerning donations to the Leacock Collection (Approximately 1948-1960).

The fonds consists of manuscripts and drafts of literary compositions and other working documents, as well as professional and personal correspondence.

The fonds consists of Scobie’s personal records relating to his career as a prominent author, poet and critic in Canada between 1966 and 1989. The bulk of the records consists of his written materials; manuscripts and drafts of published and unpublished poetry, novels, short stories, critical writings, including annotated drafts of his books on bpNichol and Leonard Cohen, as well as various notes, both typed and handwritten, unproduced film scripts and a libretto. The files also include some peripheral and administrative documents relating to his publications, such as book sales receipts, royalty agreements, and reviews, as well as promotional materials relating to lectures, poetry readings and other events. Other materials include correspondence between Scobie and friends, publishers, and other organizations and individuals, as well as selected editions of White Pelican, a literary journal that Scobie edited, from 1971-1973.

The Trustees' Minute Book records negotiations for establishing the school, engaging teachers, fees, the maintenance of the building, and the curriculum. About one-third of the minutes are in Hebrew script. The school trustees' meetings occasionally took on the character of a general town assembly and general topics such as agricultural assistance to immigrants were discussed.
