Letter to John George Adami, January 3, 1914

Letter to John George Adami from William Osler, 13, Norham Gardens, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Let him know about his disappointment that Roddick's name was not on the New Year's Honours List. Thinks that there must be some hitch within the inner circles. Allen and the other Australians get recognition, but have certainly not anything like the position that Roddick has reached. Mentions that the profession is not in very good odour with the Court or the Government. Herringham should have a knighthood for his work done as Secretary General to the (International) Congress, but did not. Civilities

Sends his regrets to not being able to be at the meeting (Adami's address at the Royal Institute of Public Health in "The Policy of Ostrich"). He must attend to a quarterly Radcliffe Infirmary Court. Suggests three actions regarding the Venereal Diseases : 1. determine the incidence in the community by a special study 2. Education of the public on the importance of prophylaxis. 3. Arrange for the cheap and efficient method of distribution. States that this work could be done without in any way diminishing the intensity of the moral campaign. Will ask all the Editors of the London Dailies for a full report of the meeting.

Letter to John George Adami, January 8, 1913

Letter to John George Adami from William Osler, 13, Norham Gardens, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Thanks for his letter. Disgusted about the selection of Roddick which is not concluded yet. His opinion is that it could have been stopped by Grey, who would have a feeling that it would stir up jealousy in the French Canadians and the Ontario men if Roddick alone was selected. Mentions the political approaches made to set the matter. Sorry that Shepherd is still ill. Glad that a department for Experimental Medicine has been started at McGill. Civilities.

So Osler decided to get out of taking charge of the Swiss Delegation for the Government and had to give a reason to Buchan. Will try to take it easy for the next three months.
