Grades

This sub-subseries documents Sharma’s grades and courses taken during his post-secondary academic career, beginning in the 1950s and continuing through until Harvard University in the 1970s.

Biographical records

This series documents Sharma’s personal life including academic pursuits, recommendation letters, objects, gifts, travel records, financial records, personal documentation and a selection of miscellaneous items.

Education

Subseries documents Sharma’s academic years, from his early period at Allahabad University (in the late 50s) to his Harvard PhD (1978), through study notes, grade bulletins and diplomas.

Diplomas

This sub-subseries contains a selection of Sharma’s degrees. This includes the encased Masters in Economics from Syracuse University, 1970; an untranslated Latin note from Harvard related to Sharma’s status; Bachelor of Arts from Allahabad University, 1958; two higher secondary education certificates, dated 18 January 1955 and 3 June 1956, respectively; a Civil Defense Staff certificate from the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India, 15 April 1963; and a PhD diploma in Sanskrit and Indian Studies from Harvard, 1978.

Distinctions

This series documents Sharma's presence and reception in his field, notably through awards, and newspapers which offer critique or praise.

This sub-subseries consists of a collection of published articles used as reference by Sharma in his writing activities. This includes, but is not limited to, citations, and articles on specific subjects not produced by Sharma.

Working material

This sub series documents Sharma’s working materials which were used to create the corpus of his published and unpublished works and speeches. This reference material is not authored by Sharma and includes corrections or suggestions from colleagues or editors, and significantly annotated books.

Photographs

This series is composed of photographs relating to Sharma and other prominent figures in his life, which include Ingeleier Kemp Asen and Caroline Coombes. Most of the photographs of Sharma are from his academic endeavours.

Subseries consists of photographs of Sharma taken during his academic career and includes 4 coloured photographs are from his address at Lehigh University’s 2014 Baccalaureate ceremony; 1 negative film and 1 colored photo print of a portrait taken for the 13th of April 1977 issue of the Australian newspaper; 1 colored photograph from Sharma’s implication as a respondent to a symposium in 1996, attached to a letter that offers context; 3 colored photograph taken in 1996 at the International Congress of Vedanta; an instant still photography taken at least after 1962; 2 colored photographs from his inauguration speech at the 1982’s ‘India Week’; 3 colored photographs from his participation to the 1996 India International Centre’s symposium; 3 colored photographs, taken at least during the 90s or the early 2000s, of himself in a theatre with friends and alone; 2 colored photographs from 1997 of Sharma seated with 17 guests in what seems like a seminar presentation; and 2 undated, colored photographs of a visit Sharma had in an Asian country attached to a letter that offers very minimal context.
