Kenneth Allan Caldwell Elliott Fonds
The fonds illustrates Dr. Elliott's work as a neurochemist and consists of correspondence, letters, articles, newspaper clippings, photographs, slides, research material and notes, course material, manuscripts, typescripts. The fonds is divided into seven series.
Elliott, K. A. C. (Kenneth Allan Caldwell), 1903-1986
Academic Certificates and Awards
Contains list of Dr. Elliott’s publications, certificate of baptism and academic certificates from the University of South Africa, University of Cambridge and the Royal Society of Canada.
Series E contains course seminar notes, copies of exams, lectures notes and correspondence. Dr. Elliott’s recommendations for students and colleagues and his academic certificates and awards are included in this series. Correspondence relating to Dr. Elliott’s visits to certain countries to teach is also included. This sub-series is comprised of 22 files (nos. 146 to 180).
Series G contains Dr. Elliott’s personal travel slides, some portrait photograph slides of Dr. Elliott and others at McGill University. This sub-series also includes photographs of association gatherings, staff photographs of the Department of Neurochemistry and the Montreal Neurological Institute. Various portrait photographs and ones of medical instruments are also included.
This series is divided into four (4) sub-series:
G/1) Slides, 1962-1975
G/2) Photographs, 1920-1968
G/3) Drawings, 1943-1958
G/4) Postcards, 1959-1986
Research (experiment) notebooks.
Sub-series A-1 contains experiment notebooks from the Chemistry Laboratory, Cambridge, concerning the study of stereochemistry. Of special relevance are the experiments pertaining to the optical activity caused by the restriction of the rotation of a trivalent nitrogen atom. It includes material produced at the Sir William Dunn Institute of Biochemistry related to oxidation reduction systems with particular relevance to the reduction of glutathione and the study of peroxidases in milk and horseradishes. This sub-series is comprised of 4 files (files no. 1 to 4), which are arranged chronologically.
Series A contains Dr. Elliott’s research notebooks from his association with Selwyn College, Cambridge, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Montreal Neurological Institute. Some of this research was collaborative. Most of the series comprises research relating to the study of brain trauma as a result of head injury or neurosurgery.
This series is divided into three (3) sub-series:
A/1) Research (experiment) notebooks, 1927-1933
A/2) Research (experiment) notebooks, 1933-1949
A/3) Research (experiment) notebooks, 1944-1957
Research notes, January-February 1927.
Manuscript research notes concerning optical activity caused by the restriction of a trivalent nitrogen atom using a polimeter.
