Administrativion News Pavilion

Administration and News building exterior view (Cité du Havre, lot A-208). Unlike most Expo structures, the Administration and news building was designed as a permanent structure. The award winning three-storey building had design intentions that focused on flexibilty and human comfort. The building featured underground parking and three main areas, each with a sepearate entrance hall. The idea was that each area could be used seperately if so desired. The dimensions of the stepped exterior wall were derived from the daily angles of the sun. All of Expo's six administrative departments as well as news services from the five continents were housed on site. Features rectangular, stepped wall elevations on an "S" plan; reinforced concrete with long span stell joists and beams; anodized aluminum curtain walls with stucco (S: 890' long, 85' wide (S plan) --- A: 66,000 sq. ft. (per floor) --- H: 42' (plus mechanical services penthouses))

Africa Place Pavilions

Aerial view of the roofscape of the Africa Place Pavilions (lot C-462). Housing exhibits from 15 African countries (Niger, Ivory Coast, Upper Volta, Cameroun, Chad, Dahomey, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Gabon, Senegal, Togo, Kenya, Madagascar and Uganda, lots C-462 and C-463), a natural flow pattern was a fundamental design intention. Each pavilion cluster was formally related to and spatially dependent on its neighbour. A natural ventilation system in the roof design added an underlying consistency to the roof forms. Sharp edged triangular roofscape on a modular grid system. Terracotta tile with reinforced concrete. (S: 320' x 320' (over all irregular shapes) --- A: 50,000 sq. ft. (per floor) --- H: 40')
