        History

Robert James Howard was a land surveyor and land agent who lived at Shear Bank House on Lilford Road, Blackburn, Lancashire, England, until his death in June 1927 at the age of seventy-four. A native of Burnley, he relocated to Blackburn following his marriage to Louisa Mary Ann, who was originally from Halifax. During the late 1870s and early 1880s, the family resided at 34 Wimberley Terrace, Shear Brow, where Howard was recorded as a land surveyor at the time of the 1881 baptism of their son, William. They subsequently moved to Shear Bank House on Lilford Road, which remained the family residence for the rest of his life.
