History
Ida Richardson Hood was a prominent librarian and archivist at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City during the early 20th century. Though often colloquially referred to or acknowledged alongside the curatorial staff for her immense research contributions, her official titles at the institution spanned from Assistant Librarian to Acting Curator of Books and Publications. She was born in New Orleans and was the daughter of the famous Confederate General John Bell Hood. Following her parents' untimely deaths from yellow fever in 1879, she and her multiple siblings were famously adopted by different families across the country.
