        History

Susan Hodgson (née Susan Townshend) was the second wife of the British civil servant, naturalist, and Orientalist Brian Houghton Hodgson (1800–1894). An amateur photographer, she produced a body of work that has been preserved in notable archival collections, including the Harry Ransom Center Photography Collection at the University of Texas at Austin and the Bodleian Libraries at the University of Oxford. Her surviving photographs provide a valuable record of nineteenth-century photography and contribute to her enduring historical legacy.
