History
Reverend Heinrich Theophile Heyde was a prominent 19th-century German plant collector, clergyman, and missionary who made significant contributions to the botanical documentation of Central America. Working primarily between 1889 and 1894, he teamed up with his nephew, Ernest Lux, to conduct extensive botanical explorations across Guatemala and parts of Mexico. Together, the duo amassed large, meticulously numbered collections of local flora, particularly orchids, often cited in botanical literature under the collector team name "Heyde & Lux." Today, the historical plant specimens gathered by Heinrich Theophile Heyde are preserved in major global herbaria, including the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
