George H. Elliott was born on November 5, 1842, in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
He was a barrister. He likely attended Pictou Academy. He studied law at the university and became a lawyer, practicing in Pictou. He was admitted to the Bar in 1868. He was the first Town Clerk and served in that capacity for many years. He also served as Mayor of Pictou for two terms in 1887 and 1888.
