        Lieut.-Col. James Brock Cushing was born on October 2, 1939, in Chatham, Argenteuil, Quebec.

        He was a businessman, well-known also in military circles. He commanded the 11th Argenteuil Rangers when they won the Sir Leonard A. Smith's cup for the most efficient country battalion. He was a brother of notary Charles Cushing (1848-1910).

        In 1869, he married Elizabeth Titcombe Hill (1841–1905). He died on October 22, 1903, in Chatham, Argenteuil, Quebec.
