        History

        Greville R. Clarke was an English natural history and maritime enthusiast who donated and collected natural history specimens, especially local birds and nests, for the Liverpool Museum (now the World Museum). He later moved to the south coast of England and lived in Walkford near Highcliffe-on-Sea. Clarke also collected precision maritime and surveying instruments. After he died in 1958, his widow, Mrs. Greville Clarke, sold parts of his collection in 1959. Among these items was a historic surveyor's double goniograph sextant, which is now kept in the national collections at Greenwich.
