        History

Fredrick John Louis Boettcher (often cited as F. L. J. Boettcher) was a field collector and biological technician who worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the United States National Museum (Smithsonian Institution) in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of his best-documented archival footprints is his field catalogue covering August 19 to October 22, 1901. During this expedition to Germany (specifically travelling through Hanover, Königsberg, and Silesia), he logged extensive specimen data. His notebooks from this era include hand-drawn maps and descriptions regarding local habitat conditions and regional vegetation.
