History

Thomas Blackwood (1773-1842), born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, came to Canada in 1791. He was in the service of the fur trading firm of James McGill for a number of years. Later he formed a business partnership with McGill's stepson, François Desrivières. In 1822, Blackwood became the first President of the Montreal Board of Trade.
