        History

Robert Barclay, Esq., was born on April 22, 1816, in Montrose, Angus, Scotland.

In the mid to late 1800s, he served as the Honorary Secretary of the Montrose Natural History and Antiquarian Society. He is also known for inventing a method of displaying coins in museums and other locations. This method allowed coins to be safely preserved under glass cases while enabling easy inspection of both sides at any time.

In 1848, he married Robertina Mcculloch Watson (1823–1901). He died on May 8, 1896, in Inchbrayock, Craig, Montrose, Angus, Scotland.
