Prof. W.B. Hinton was an amateur bird collector and naturalist active during the late 1890s. He is best known in ornithological history for contributing rare North American bird specimens and oölogical (bird egg) records to major academic catalogues and the Smithsonian Institution. His field notes and collection data—primarily focused on North American species—were published in prominent natural history periodicals of the era, such as The Ornithologist and Oölogist.

Isadore Benjamin Hirshberg (1890-1965) was born in Bay City, Michigan. He began his medical studies at McGill in 1909 and graduated in 1914. In 1913, he trained at the Alexandra Hospital for Infectious Diseases when John McCrae was on staff. In 1914, Hirshberg interned at the Montreal General Hospital. During the First World War he served at the Canadian Explosives plant at Beloeil Quebec and on his return to Montreal served on the staff of the Jewish Maternity Hospital, the forerunner of the Jewish General Hospital and was one of the latter hospital's founders.

Stephen Hislop was a Scottish missionary, educator, and highly accomplished naturalist who spent most of his career in central India. While best celebrated as a pioneer of Indian paleontology and geology, he made notable contributions as an amateur ornithologist, entomologist, and linguist.
