John Walter McOuat was born on June 7, 1858, in Québec, Canada.

He was a teacher and school inspector. He was a member of the Provincial Association of Protestant Teachers of Quebec. He also served as an editor of "The Educational Record of the Province of Quebec," a monthly, published under the authority of the Protestant Committee of the Board of Education.

In 1888, he married Julia Ann Armstrong (1867–1927). He died on February 26, 1932, in Lachûte, Argenteuil, Québec.

Charles McNicholl, born and raised in Westmount, was stock broker in Montreal. While he was still a student at McGill University, he was recruited for military service and went to Augusta, Georgia, for training at the Wright Flying School. Among various commissions during World War I, he spent two terms on the seaplane carrier HMS Pegasus. When he was decommissioned in 1918, he had achieved the rank of flight lieutenant and been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.

James C. McNeil was the editor of the Glengarry Times in the early 1880s.
