Rev. Frederick Widmer was born on January 22, 1835, in Troy, New York.

He was a clergyman. He studied and taught at Poultney Academy, Vermont. He got licensed to preach by the Methodist Episcopal Church in Albany, New York. Widmer continued his theological studies, as well as the studies of science and philosophy. In 1862, he was ordained deacon, and in 1864, elder. A unique preacher, he served at Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, Troy, New York.

In 1860, he married Anna Eliza Cutts (1833-1909). He died on June 25, 1891, in Salem, New York.

Richard John Wicksteed was born on October 3, 1842, in Kingston, Ontario.

He was an advocate, attorney, and military officer. He graduated from McGill University (B.A., 1863; B.C.L., 1864; M.A, 1866; LL.D., 1868). He was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1867. In 1872, Wicksteed was called to the Bar of Ontario and was appointed Law Clerk and English Translator in the House of Commons. His military service spanned over twenty years. He began as a Private in the Civil Service Rifle Corps for three years before becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quebec Garrison artillery and finally achieving the rank of Captain. He participated in the Fenian Raids of 1866 and 1871. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association of Ottawa. Wicksteed compiled several indexes and tables to the Statutes of Canada. He also authored many pamphlets and contributed to several periodicals and Canadian newspapers. He was a member of the Natural History Society (1865) and Numismatic and Antiquarian Society (1869). In 1898, he succeeded his father as Le Seigneur de Champlain. Wicksteed never married, and upon his death, he bequeathed his estate, including his extensive library, to McGill University.

He died on June 12, 1912, in Ottawa, Ontario.

Gustavus William Wicksteed was born in Liverpool, England, and came to Canada in 1821. He was called to the bar of Lower Canada and was named Queen's Counsel in 1854. Wicksteed was appointed assistant law clerk to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada in 1828 and in 1838 law clerk to the Special Council of the Province. He also became law clerk of the Legislative Assembly of the United Provinces in 1841 and law clerk to the Canadian House of Commons in 1867. In 1887 Wicksteed retired and he died in Ottawa in 1898. He was also a poet and published Waifs in verse (Montréal, 1878). As well, he published several indexes to the statutes of Canada.

Mark Whitwill was born in 1857 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.

He was a shipowner, shipbroker, and philanthropist. He worked at Mark Whitwill & Son, Shipowners and Brokers and General Shipping Agents, a firm established by his father, Mark Whitwill (1826-1903), in Bristol in 1831. They were managers of Great Western Line of Steamers, Bristol & New York, and agents for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, the Allan Line of Steamers to Quebec, and the National Line of Steamers to New York.

In 1883, he married Emma Reece May (1860–). He died on December 5, 1921, in Keynsham, Somerset, England.
