Joseph Richard Farmery was born in 1872 in Ludborough, Lincolnshire, England and passed away on October 31, 1928, in Louth, Lincolnshire, England. Orphaned at a young age, he taught himself in his free time, hoping to become a teacher. Instead, he began working for The Louth Advertiser as a boy and remained in journalism throughout his life, eventually editing the Louth Observer and later joining The Louth Standard. Farmery was also known locally for his interest in botany and geology. In 1909, he co-authored a valuable paper for our publication on the zones of the Lower Chalk of Lincolnshire with Rev. C. R. Bower. Despite facing poor health and many responsibilities, Farmery was known for his friendly and generous nature, always giving his best to others.
