The Primrose Brothers was a firm in Pictou, Nova Scotia. Founded by James Primrose (1803-1882), it was involved in insurance, lumber, shipbuilding, coal mines, and the Marine Railroad Company. The other senior members of the firm were James’ sons Clarence Primrose (1830-1902) and Howard Primrose (1833-1906). Howard, who was deaf, wrote the annual report of the Marine Railroad Company, and he also attended to the firm’s correspondence and business related to the Customs House. In 1864, William Norman Rudolph (1835-1886) became a partner in the firm, and they became known as Primrose & Rudolph.

William Norman Rudolph (1835-1886) began as an employee in the shipping and banking firm of James Primrose (1803-1882), whose other senior partners were his sons Clarence Primrose (1830-1902) and Howard Primrose (1833-1906). After the retirement of the founder James Primrose in 1864, Rudolph joined the firm as a one-quarter shareholder and the firm became known as Primrose & Rudolf. It was dissolved in 1870.
